Rosanna’s practice emphasis is general civil litigation, fatal accident/personal injury claims, corporate–commercial litigation, and previously, family and criminal law. She has successfully handled several legally complex cases in each of these fields, which have established legal precedent in the Alberta jurisdiction and which have received local and national media attention.

Rosanna has considerable trial experience, including jury and non–jury trials. She has also been involved in the conduct of cases in all levels of the judiciary, including the Court of Queen’s Bench, Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Rosanna has lectured and presented a variety of papers on current legal issues at the request of the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers’ Association, the Legal Education Society of Alberta and the Institute of Canada.

Rosanna also serves part–time as a presiding Justice of the Peace. Her duties include:

  • Conducting judicial interim release hearings;
  • Issuing warrants (arrest or to obtain blood samples/ tracking devices/ number recorder warrants/ or for search and seizure);
  • Authorizing child apprehensions under the Protection of Children Involved in Prostitution Act, the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and the Drug Endangered Children’s Act;
  • Granting emergency protection orders pursuant to the Protection Against Family Violence Act.

Fluent in Italian.

Honours and Awards

  • Queens’ Counsel Appointment — (January 2010) Honorary title is conferred by the Province of Alberta, recognizing “outstanding expertise, work and contribution in a lawyer’s public life”;
  • Olympic Torchbearer — Olympic Torch Relay (January 2010 ) — At the special invitation of the Royal Bank of Canada, Rosanna was honoured to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay as an Edmonton representative;
  • Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association President’s Award (2007) — A.C.T.L.A. is the largest civil trial lawyers association in Alberta with over 500 members. This award is presented by the Board of Directors annually to one member of the Alberta bar in “recognition of his/her distinguished contribution to the profession, the community and the enhancement of the law”;
  • Alberta Centennial Medal of Honor (December 2005) — awarded for “outstanding community service”;
  • Woman of the Year Award (January 2000) — award given by the Edmonton Business and Professional Women’s Association. This award is to recognize “outstanding leadership, initiative and community service by a woman in the work force”. Past recipients include the late Honourable Lois Hole (former Lt. Governor of the Province of Alberta), Dr. Ruth Collins–Nakai (past President of the Alberta Medical Association) and Anne Wheeler (award winning film director);
  • Sir Lawrence Hawe Award (October 1980) in the sum of $15,000.00 awarded to a first year law student;
  • Queen Elizabeth Undergraduate Scholarships (1976–1979);
  • Recipient of numerous scholastic, public speaking, Students’ Council and athletic awards (pre–1976).
