Professional Highlights

  • Developed an expertise in general civil litigation and in court-related realization matters, specifically, receivership and foreclosures;
  • Has a broad range of exposure to various corporate and commercial areas of practice including corporate reorganization and finance;
  • Has advised clients in business-related law including contracts, builders’ liens; construction and insurance-related litigation; employment law for both employers and employees; attachment orders and civil enforcement; garagekeepers’ liens and enforcement of same in relation to heavy industrial equipment and consequential priority issues;
  • Experienced in complicated debt collection and debtor-creditor relationships, both at the commercial and retail levels. Acted for various collection agencies, corporations, and financial institutions throughout Alberta;
  • Served as counsel in Northern Alberta for the curator and liquidator of a Canadian-based commercial bank, and acted for the major chartered accountancy firms retained for the realization of the bank’s assets which involved assessment of the bank’s security on numerous commercial loans in its portfolio; recommendations on courses of action available; negotiation and settlement of accounts where possible, and enforcement of rights and remedies through legal action where required. Actively involved with litigation action against the directors and officers of the collapsed bank, considered to be one of the largest and most unique litigation actions in Canadian history at that time;
  • Served as counsel in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Court of Appeal of Alberta on many complicated foreclosure, real estate related, and other financial recovery and litigation matters, including CCAA proceedings and the bankruptcy and insolvency issues of competing creditors relating thereto.

Honours and Awards

  • Community Service Award for public education in the area of Child Abuse Prevention;
  • Co-author of a child abuse prevention manual prepared in conjunction with local and national law enforcement agencies, and distributed across Canada through community service organizations
