Brian’s practice emphasis is in Aboriginal law; corporate and commercial law; and general real estate law, including financings; the purchase, sale, lease or mortgage of land; joint ventures; partnership contracts; condominium development and land development.

His extensive expertise and experience working with First Nations in areas of gaming; corporate and commercial law; real property; and liaising with all levels of government, has made Brian an authority on Aboriginal law in Alberta. Brian’s practice is currently over 75% devoted to Aboriginal law.

Professional Highlights

• Served as counsel for seven First Nations in Alberta, addressing corporate, social and political issues;
• Actively involved in First Nations’ gaming and negotiations with the Province of Alberta since the inception of First Nations’ gaming in Alberta;
• Served as counsel for a number of national and regional corporations operating in the construction industry in Western Canada; focused on financial recoveries;
• Presented papers and seminars on creditor’s rights collection practices, charitable gaming responsibilities, and corporate directors’ rights and obligations;
• Instructed the real estate portion of the Alberta Law Society Bar Admission Course;
• Served as counsel for the largest public subsidized residential landlord in the Province of Alberta;
• Served as counsel for acquisitions and mergers for a publicly traded corporation;
• Incorporation, project development and securities financing of an Alberta co–operative;
• Negotiating an oil royalty agreement with future royalties in excess of $1 billion to the First Nation;
• Concluded a class settlement relating to a train derailment for in excess of $10 million
